These Days, We’re All Living on a Prayer
Bon Jovi’s songs remind us to enjoy that moment, that guy, that girl, that kiss, that night, that time, that love because life is fleeting and it goes by so very, very fast.
After going through a One Direction phase that lasted four long years and cost a fortune in tickets for three separate concerts and related 1D “merch”, I was overjoyed when my then 15-year-old daughter discovered the music of her parents’ youth.
Not that I had anything against the lads of One Direction. Truth be told, I enjoyed their music (always a perk when one becomes the designated parental concert chaperone) and still do; most of their songs remain downloaded on my Spotify. But I was delighted in my girl’s newfound appreciation for the classic tunes of the ’80s, mainly because all the merchandise and music one could possibly need was already available in our basement — free of charge, no less! — and easily accessible to today’s generation on cassettes and CDs.
Anyway, sometime around fall 2016, The Girl heard that Bon Jovi was touring and would be stopping here in Pittsburgh the following spring. She begged to go. Constantly. One thing you should know about my girl and music: when she finds someone she likes, she becomes your number one fan. Forever.
