Kicking Off Another Season of Souper Bowl Sundays
Nothing says fall like football, family, and a pot of simmering soup.
I don’t care what the calendar says — in my world, today is the first day of fall and Souper Bowl Sunday.
Allow me to explain. Yes, it’s the first Sunday game of the NFL season. In our house, this is a very exciting event and one of the highlights of The Husband’s year. From now until February, every Sunday will revolve around football on TV. (And his iPad. And his phone.)
For me, today means the return of Souper Bowl Sundays.
You see, nothing says fall and family to me more than football on TV and a big ol’ pot of soup simmering away.
Neither The Husband nor I can remember how or when this little tradition of ours started. I didn’t grow up watching football (except at large family gatherings). I don’t have a sense of smell, so it’s not about the nostalgia that comes from fragrant aromas of food.
All I know is that one Sunday I made a batch of soup while football was on TV and since then it’s been a tradition for most — if not all — of the 30 seasons we’ve been watching football together. It’s just something I do.
